AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. Amazon Web Services is seeking a Senior Architect to become part of a global engineering team, responsible for the implementation and technical evaluation of our designs and the continuous innovation of our rapidly expanding data center footprint.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement Architectural systems for data centers, collaborating with electrical, mechanical, civil, structural, Telecommunications and other disciplines.
- BIM (Revit) experience.
- Support continuous improvement through data analysis and system optimization.
- Conceive, initiate, and lead projects with widespread impact on infrastructure design, innovation, and implementation.
- Decompose complex problems into straightforward and actionable solutions.
- Work with internal teams to understand user requirements and challenges.
- Collaborate with teams or individuals from other disciplines, cultures, and countries.
- Escalate issues as required and communicate clearly and effectively at the appropriate level of detail with people from a wide range of technical abilities and backgrounds.
- Produce clear and concise documentation such as detailed design specifications, white papers, schematics, diagrams, and reports.
- Understand and safeguard the implementation of the Architectural Basis of Design (BOD).
- Drive standardization in the data center Architectural space.
- Develop strategic solutions that meet or exceed quality requirements and stay within budgetary constraints.
- Capture requirements and translate aspirational company or customer goals into well-defined, testable specifications and solutions.
- Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests during innovation and R&D projects.
- Provide technical support on global Large Scale Events (LSEs), including deep dives, investigations, and recommendations on mitigation plans.
- Work on concurrent projects across multiple geographical regions.
- Maintain and host technical Architectural forums to foster collaborative development of data center systems.
- Provide support and mentorship for the entire Data Center Engineering community.
- Offer creative, out-of-the-box solutions.
Basic Qualifications
- 6+ years of data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance experience.
- 4+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission‑critical facilities (e.g., data centers, power generation, oil and gas).
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
- Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Experience in data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance.
- Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities.
- 4+ years of project management or project lead experience, including RFQ/RFP process, selecting engineering teams, developing budgets, coordinating multiple consultant teams, and facilitating meetings.
- Experience with one or more of the following technologies (e.g., AutoCAD, Rhino, Revit, SolidWorks, CREO, BIM360, SketchUp, KeyShot) to deliver high quality models and designs.
- Experience with CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit, BIM360, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineering or Architectural License.
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region.
- Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production.
- Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
Benefits
- Base salary: $136,600.00 – $184,800.00 USD annually (USA, TX, Austin).
- Base salary: $136,600.00 – $184,800.00 USD annually (USA, VA, Herndon).
- Base salary: $136,600.00 – $184,800.00 USD annually (USA, WA, Seattle).
