Location: Remote

Job Type: Contract

Work schedule: Normal business hours Monday-Friday 40 hours/week (not including mandatory unpaid meal break after 6 hours of work).

Duration: 12 Months

Pay Rate: $70 per hour

Job Description / Justification:

We are seeking a Senior Application Operations Engineer reporting to the DevOps Applications division. This role involves supporting applications deployed to AWS, including NYC.ID, OTI CAPTCHA service, City Clerk, NYC.gov, and more, as part of the Application Modernization Initiative. Responsibilities include managing deployments, triaging issues, creating fixes, resolving service tickets, and maintaining comprehensive documentation on technical architecture, design, and operational procedures. Effective communication with project managers, QA, and stakeholders is essential. The Senior Application Operations Engineer will collaborate closely with the Application Operations Lead to deliver operational enhancements, ensuring adherence to OTI standards, quality, and security guidelines.

SCOPE OF SERVICES

TASKS:

• Manage application deployments in production and non-production environments.
• Handle service tickets based on priority.
• Troubleshoot application issues promptly.
• Implement security enhancements as needed.
• Utilize cloud provider tools (AWS, Azure) for triaging and observability.
• Work with CI/CD and project management tools like Azure DevOps.
• Analyze, define problems, gather requirements, and develop solutions, including defect fixes and enhancements.
• Use source code quality and security tools for static and dynamic analysis.
• Create and maintain project documentation.
• Participate in technical reviews (configuration, code, etc.).

MANDATORY SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

• Minimum 8 years of experience developing and maintaining Java applications.
• Proficiency with Java build tools like Maven and Gradle.
• Hands-on experience with Spring MVC, Spring Boot, JPA, Hibernate, JSP, and relational databases such as Oracle and PostgreSQL.
• Experience with AWS services like ECS, Lambda, EC2, EFS, ELB, etc.
• Monitoring AWS services and applications using CloudWatch or similar tools.
• Expertise with Azure DevOps: GIT, CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
• Self-motivated team player.
• Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure during production outages.

DESIRABLE SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

• Scripting skills in Python, PowerShell, Bash.
• Experience integrating with external SaaS systems.
• Developing user interfaces with ReactJS.
• Containerization with Docker.
• Knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
