Job description

Join to apply for the Sr. Application Engineer role at Schneider Electric.

This person will be the primary Application Engineer providing coverage for industrial and commercial clients in Idaho and the surrounding region. The role involves extensive travel to local and out-of-state customers, with Boise as the hub. A valid driver’s license and good driving record are required, with up to 75% overnight travel initially, tapering to 30-40% after training.

The candidate must be able to obtain necessary clearances or credentials, such as Homeland Security clearance, background, and credit checks.

Responsibilities
  • Interact with customers, contractors, and end-users, working well in a team environment.
  • Provide software installation, upgrades, startup services for Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), troubleshoot equipment and device communications, and train customers on commissioned systems.
  • Consult with customers to determine system operation requirements.
  • Specify and purchase hardware/software as required by projects.
  • Configure and commission Schneider Electric and third-party hardware.
  • Document the as-built system.
Qualifications
  • Passion for helping clients use electrical power more efficiently.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication and client interaction skills.
  • Interest in being the go-to person for answers.
  • Confidence to take projects through to completion.
  • Experience with meters (troubleshooting, upgrades, installation).
  • Ability to interpret contract specifications and electrical drawings.
  • Experience setting up communications with Electrical Power Monitoring Systems, Building Automation, Systems Integration, and Energy Management Systems.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience with electrical equipment such as switchgear, generators, UPS systems.
  • Understanding of communication protocols like Modbus, IEC 61850, BACnet.
  • Knowledge of computer networking architectures and hardware.
  • Knowledge of programming languages (VBA, C/C++, Java), SQL, HTML.
  • Experience with Schneider Electric software like Power Monitoring Expert, Power SCADA Expert, Wonderware.
Additional Notes
  • The first 3-4 weeks involve online training and safety classes, followed by on-the-job training with a peer.
  • Work sites vary daily, primarily in commercial, industrial, and medical facilities.
  • Efforts are made to limit commute times to 2 hours or less; overnight travel is sometimes required with expenses covered.
  • Mileage reimbursement or fleet/rental vehicle options available.
