Position purpose

The Senior Analytics Engineer, Revenue Accounting will design and build the governed transformation layer for The Specialty Alliance's revenue-recognition and accrual data product. The role supports a physician-led, multi-specialty MSO model that combines shared operational infrastructure and analytics with practice-level autonomy, making standardized financial data models and transparent business logic essential.

This engineer will focus on Snowflake-based transformation logic, curated finance-ready data models, automated tests, and reconciliation-supporting datasets that convert source data into trusted accounting outputs. The position is deeply hands-on and sits between core data engineering and finance analytics, ensuring revenue-accounting logic is accurate, explainable, auditable, and scalable.

The primary purpose of the role is to transform heterogeneous source-system data into controlled, reusable, and finance-approved revenue-accounting models. This role will help reduce spreadsheet-driven accounting work, improve consistency across practices, and create durable data assets that support reconciliations, accruals, journal-entry support, and management reporting.

Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks
  • Design, build, and maintain Snowflake transformation models for revenue, accrual, reconciliation, and close-support use cases.
  • Translate accounting and business requirements into scalable SQL and analytics-engineering patterns, with strong documentation and version control.
  • Build curated subject-area datasets covering charges, payments, contractual adjustments, refunds, credit balances, unapplied cash, denials, reserves, and other finance-relevant concepts.
  • Implement automated data tests for completeness, accuracy, period alignment, duplication, referential integrity, and reconciliation behavior.
  • Partner with the Lead Data Engineer to implement canonical revenue-accounting models, reusable transformation standards, and deployment controls.
  • Work closely with the Revenue Accounting Data Product Owner and Finance Data Analyst to validate business logic, investigate variances, and refine outputs.
  • Optimize model performance, lineage clarity, maintainability, and reusability across practices and future use cases.
  • Support parallel runs, close-cycle validation, exception triage, and post-release issue resolution.
  • Document transformation logic, finance definitions, test coverage, and release changes in a way Finance and audit stakeholders can understand.
  • Contribute to engineering best practices for SQL, Python, Git, CI/CD, peer review, naming standards, and release management.
  • Mentor junior analytics engineers or engineers assigned to future revenue-accounting workstreams.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, finance, accounting, mathematics, or a related field; equivalent practical experience considered.
  • 5+ years of analytics engineering, data engineering, BI engineering, or related experience.
  • Deep expertise in SQL and strong experience building production-grade transformation logic in Snowflake or a comparable cloud data platform.
  • Experience with dbt or similar transformation and testing frameworks, including documentation and modular model design.
  • Experience translating complex business logic into scalable curated data models and testable data pipelines.
  • Strong understanding of data quality, reconciliation principles, lineage, metadata, and controlled-release practices.
  • Experience partnering with business stakeholders to refine metric definitions, resolve discrepancies, and improve trusted reporting outputs.
  • Familiarity with Python, Git-based development, CI/CD, and automated quality checks.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Healthcare-provider, MSO, physician-practice, payer, or revenue-cycle domain experience.
  • Direct exposure to accounting, close support, revenue-recognition logic, accruals, reserves, or GL-supporting datasets.
  • Experience with Azure ecosystem tools such as Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Azure DevOps, or comparable cloud tooling.
  • Knowledge of healthcare-revenue concepts such as claims, remittances, contractual adjustments, denials, refunds, and AR aging.
  • Experience supporting finance or audit stakeholders with lineage, rule documentation, and test evidence.
  • Exposure to multi-entity data standardization, acquisitions, or system conversions.
Performance Requirements
  • Self-managed or need little supervision
  • Persistence in staying on task to solve technical problems
  • Flexibility and initiative
  • Accountability for own schedule and reporting on activities
