Job summary

Capital Power is seeking a Senior Specialist in Energy Markets to provide expert market analysis and forecasts to support investment, asset management, and trading decisions. You will lead long‑term price projections, model asset margins, and deliver decision‑ready insights to senior leadership.

The role emphasizes regulatory awareness, dashboard design, and collaboration with Commercial and Supply & Trading teams to optimize hedging and contracting strategies.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in North American power and gas markets.
  • Experience forecasting wholesale electricity prices and asset revenue.
  • Experience with ISOs (e.g., MISO, PJM, ISONE, IESO, NYISO) is a strong asset.
  • Ability to translate complex market dynamics into actionable business recommendations.

Responsibilities

  • Own long-term fundamental power market forecasts for assigned regions.
  • Review, develop, and defend key market assumptions including supply, demand, fuel prices, emissions pricing, policy impacts, and CONE.
  • Lead asset-level gross margin projections, dispatch modeling, and financial proformas to support budgeting, long-term planning, and project valuations.
  • Support business development and expansion initiatives by delivering price forecasts, dispatch analysis, and due diligence assessments for new investments.
  • Provide strategic market insights to Commercial and Supply & Trading teams to support origination, hedging, and contracting strategies.
  • Manage external consultants, including scope definition, assumption review, quality control, and interpretation of results.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations and briefings to cross-functional teams, senior management and executive teams on market outlooks, risks, and opportunities.
  • Monitor regulatory, policy, and market design developments, assessing their commercial, financial impacts and incorporating their implications into price projections.
  • Designing and implementing market dashboards for consumption across the company.

Reporting to the Head of Energy Markets, this role provides expert analysis and market insight to support Capital Power’s investment, asset management, commercial, and trading decisions. This role is accountable for market price forecasts, asset gross margin projections, and strategic market assessments across assigned North


You Will Contribute to Our Team By

  • .Reviewing, developing, and defending key market assumptions including supply, demand, fuel prices, emissions pricing, policy impacts, and cost of new entry (CONE)
  • .Leading asset‑level gross margin projections, dispatch modeling, and financial proformas to support budgeting, long‑term planning, and project valuations
