Summary
Under general direction of Manager, Accounting Operations, performs a variety of professional accounting duties, administers various automated sub-systems, monitors general ledger accounts, prepares and reviews entries to ensure the accuracy of all account figures, prepares numerous accounting/finance related reports and summaries.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for day-to-day accounting for Brown University Health affiliated entities, including timely preparation of monthly financial reports and analyses.
- Maintain compliance with closing schedules of Brown University Health and its affiliates.
- Prepare journal entries for appropriate accounts; ensure all account activity recorded, corrections made, adjustments calculated, and closing entries prepared.
- Coordinate resolution of significant budget variances for the closing process.
- Review trial balances to identify input and accounting errors, resolve errors through analysis and correction entries.
- Review check requests and purchase requisitions to ensure adequate balance in non-research restricted funds prior to processing.
- Perform monthly review of deficit restricted funds and resolve issues with appropriate manager or director.
- Maintain chart of accounts within Corporate guidelines, including issuance and deletion of cost centers and accounts used to summarize financial performance.
- Maintain restricted fund report distribution lists.
- Gather data and assist in the preparation and consolidation of complex financial and statistical statements and summaries depicting the financial activities and status of Brown University Health’s affiliated entities.
- Perform analysis of various general ledger accounts by reviewing entries, compiling and comparing balances, interpreting trends and deviations from standards.
- Maintain and reconcile balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis.
- Conduct special analysis and work on special projects, prepare ad-hoc financial and statistical reports, reply to information requests.
- Work with Financial Operations and Information Systems personnel to coordinate updates, reconciliations and reporting of assigned areas.
- Prepare annual information reporting returns and annual tax returns of Brown University Health’s entities.
- Assist with preparation of schedules and analyses required for the annual financial statement audit; interact with audit staff to respond to inquiries.
- Seek and develop methods to improve efficiency and effectiveness of financial operations, initiate improvements to processes and reports.
Minimum Qualifications
- Basic knowledge: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Designation of CPA or CMA preferred.
- Computer literate, especially in spreadsheet and word processing programs.
- Three or more years of accounting experience, including preparation of multi-company financial statements, preparation of annual tax filings, extensive microcomputer applications and financial reporting, preferably in a health care environment.
Pay Range
$74,672.00 - $123,198.40
