Job summary

Core Specialty Insurance Services, Inc. seeks a Senior Accountant to support financial close, reconciliations, and AR operations within an insurance setting.

You will partner with stakeholders, improve controls, and contribute to audits. A hybrid/remote work environment is available, with emphasis on accuracy and process improvement while mentoring junior staff.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years accounting experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting required.
  • Insurance experience is a plus.
  • CPA is a plus.

  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities.
  • Analyze accounts receivable balances and aging trends.
  • Investigate unapplied cash, aged balances, and customer account discrepancies.
  • Assist with SOX, control and compliance-related activities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and strengthen controls.

Job description

- The Senior Accountant will play a key role within the Operational Accounting team, supporting financial close, account reconciliations, accounts receivable operations, cash application activities, audit support, and process improvement initiatives. This position is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records while partnering with internal stakeholders to identify and resolve complex accounting issues. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and eager to take ownership of challenging accounting processes in a dynamic insurance environment. Position is open to a hybrid/remote work environment.

Key Accountabilities/Deliverables

Prepare and review monthly journal entries and account reconciliations. Research and resolve reconciling items in a timely manner. Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities. Ensure financial records are complete, accurate, and supported by appropriate documentation. Analyze accounts receivable balances and aging trends. Investigate unapplied cash, aged balances, and customer account discrepancies. Partner with business stakeholders to resolve complex receivable-related matters. Monitor and support cash application and reconciliation activities. Support accounting for premiums, commissions, ceded activity, and other insurance-related transactions. Assist with operational accounting activities related to programs, settlements, and other complex transactions. Prepare audit-ready schedules and support documentation. Respond to internal and external audit requests. Assist with SOX, control, and compliance-related activities. Maintain documentation supporting key accounting processes and controls. Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, strengthen controls, and reduce manual effort. Assist in the development of standardized procedures and documentation. Participate in system implementations, process enhancements, and special projects. Leverage Excel and reporting tools to automate recurring tasks and analyses. Partner with Accounting, Finance, Operations, Billing, Claims, and other functional teams. Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff when appropriate. Contribute to a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and customer service. Other duties as assigned.

Technical Knowledge and Understanding

Experience in operational accounting close work Demonstrates strong attention to detail and organizational skills Proven ability to collaborate and work as part of a team. Must have good working knowledge of US GAAP accounting Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables Working knowledge of General Ledger Systems such as Workday preferred but not required.

Experience

3+ years accounting experience Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting required Insurance experience is a plus Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is a plus Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over work authorization sponsorship now or in the future for this position.
