Job summary

The Senior Accountant role at Southern Glazer's Wine & Spirits in Dallas, TX, focuses on preparing accounting information, analyzing and recording transactions, and supporting audits. You will lead financial reporting, ensure GAAP compliance, and assist with month-end and year-end closings.

You will work with a team to maintain accurate ledgers, support external auditors, and contribute to process improvements while handling various accounting duties in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required, 2–3 years of experience preferred.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and GAAP knowledge.
• Experience in balance sheet reconciliations and financial statements in a large accounting group.

Responsibilities

• Lead accounting activities and financial reporting for the organization.
• Maintain records in accordance with GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley Act requirements.
• Create reports on financial performance for internal and external use.
• Complete month-, quarter-, and year-end closings including FX, cash management and tax.
• Support junior accounting staff in developing professional skills.
• Perform reconciliations, GL maintenance, and monthly close activities.
• Prepare audit schedules and support internal/external audits as required.
• Link journal entries with backup documentation.

Overview

The Senior Accountant is responsible to prepare accounting information by analyzing, recording, verifying, consolidating, entering, and monitoring transactions; preparing trial balances and financial statements; producing payroll; supporting external auditors; helping team members.

Primary Responsibilities

• Leads the organization's accounting activities, including financial record keeping and reporting
• Maintaining records of organization's financial activity in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), organizational standards, and in compliance with Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act
• Creating reports on financial performance for internal and external use
• Completing month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities related to foreign exchange, cash management and tax, including preparing the appropriate audit work papers for such activities
• Supporting and assisting junior accounting staff in the development of their professional skills
• Reconciliations, general ledger maintenance, journal entries and month end close. Analyze monthly gross profit and reconcile distribution system reporting to financial system reporting
• Reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly; communicate across departments and corporate accounting to resolve outstanding items
• Review balance sheet accounts prepared by corporate accounting and resolve outstanding items.
• Monitor asset acquisition, transfer, and disposition activities
• Prepare corporate schedules quarterly
• Prepare interim and annual external audit schedules
• Support internal and external audit activities, as required
• Link all journal entries with appropriate backup to document numberResolve internal and external customer issues and inquiries in a timely and satisfactory manner
• Perform other job related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor s Degree in Accounting and 2-3 years of experience
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
• Strong organization, multi-tasking and time management skills
• Experience in balance sheet reconciliations and financial statement preparation within a large accounting group
