Job summary

The State of Missouri is seeking a Database Supervisor to lead the Data Center’s SQL Server teams, overseeing on‑prem and cloud databases, budgets, and project delivery. You will mentor staff, drive process improvements, and coordinate with IT sections to ensure reliable database services.

Reporting to the Database Manager, you will supervise staffing, performance, and development, while guiding technical upgrades and new services in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 5-8 years of progressive experience in Information Technology.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Aptitude to learn new technologies.
  • Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities.
  • Proven leadership skills and experience mentoring others.
  • Adaptable to change and shifting priorities.
  • Ability to motivate and encourage a high performing, diverse team.
  • Excellent communication, planning, time management, organizational and leadership skills.
  • Successful background check results are required for employment in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for employee actions, including staffing, performance management, and development.
  • Supervise the team, manage schedules, and assign duties.
  • Coach and mentor employees on technical capabilities and work to remove cross-team roadblocks.
  • Continuously monitor team performance for training and improvement opportunities.
  • Perform technical work as necessary, including troubleshooting, configuration, lifecycle management, and upgrades of SQL Server software and SQL Reporting Services.
  • Implement methodologies to streamline the team’s workflow.
  • Recommend appropriate technology to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with other leaders to support cross-domain initiatives and ensure reliable database services.
  • Remain knowledgeable and up to date on trends in SQL Server and cloud database technologies.
  • Actively contributes to strengthening the team and culture by assisting with other duties as needed.
  • Plan and manage a variety of projects from start to finish and provide on‑going support using your project management skillset and tools.
  • Communicate project status to leadership, staff, and partners.
  • Work effectively with IT customers throughout our consolidated and non-consolidated agencies.
  • Work with the management team to develop and maintain budget for your section.
  • Manage the team, balance workload, determine staffing needs, knowledge, and skills to maintain or grow section, create training & development plans for employees, ensure successful completion of plans and cross-train team to ensure success.
  • Coordinates development of policies, procedures, standards and best practices.
  • Coordinates input regarding the need for new technical, functional, or operational products or services and works with division to incorporate into strategic plans.
  • Perform supervisory responsibilities in a manner consistent with the department’s policies and other responsibilities as required or assigned.
