Job summary

Cogent Communications in Washington, DC seeks a SQL & PHP Developer to support data-driven applications, optimize queries, and expand into PHP backend work. You will design, test, and optimize stored procedures while improving reporting and analytics capabilities.

The role focuses on SQL development with a clear path into PHP application development, working with business teams to ensure accurate, scalable data solutions.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of SQL Server experience with the ability to develop queries using joins, subqueries, aggregate functions, grouping, and data manipulation.
• 1+ years of PHP web development experience.
• 1+ years of experience with the Laravel Framework.
• Understanding of relational databases, keys, normalization, and data types.
• Ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and modify queries and stored procedures with attention to performance and downstream dependencies.
• Experience in SDLC, OO analysis & design, and revision control systems.

Responsibilities

• Support applications, reporting, dashboards, analytics, and other business processes.
• Analyze and optimize SQL queries and stored procedures to meet business requirements.
• Create and modify stored procedures and queries for data retrieval and transformation.
• Test changes for data accuracy and performance before deployment.
• Document complex queries, business rules, and data dependencies.
• Review code and participate in code reviews to improve quality.
