The SQL Engineer – Level 3 is a senior individual contributor responsible for designing, developing, optimizing, and maintaining complex SQL-based data solutions. This role operates with a high degree of autonomy, serves as a subject matter expert in database and query performance, and influences data standards, architecture decisions, and best practices across teams.Essential FunctionsDesign, develop, and maintain advanced SQL queries, views, functions, and stored procedures supporting mission-critical systemsInstall, configure, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server instancesOptimize database and query performance through indexing, execution plan analysis, and schema improvementsLead complex data modeling and transformation efforts for transactional and analytical use casesEnsure data accuracy, integrity, and consistency across databases and data pipelinesPartner with engineering, ETL, BI, and product teams to define scalable data solutionsTroubleshoot and resolve complex data quality, performance, and reliability issuesEstablish and promote SQL development standards, best practices, and documentationContribute to architecture reviews and long-term data platform strategySupport data governance, security, and compliance requirements, including those applicable to regulated environmentsKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesExpert-level proficiency in SQL, including complex joins, CTEs, window functions, and performance tuningDeep understanding of relational database design, normalization, indexing, and query optimizationExperience with Microsoft AzureStrong experience working with large datasets and complex schemasAbility to design scalable, high-performance data solutionsStrong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skillsAbility to influence technical standards and mentor peersEffective communication skills with both technical and business stakeholdersEducation and ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experienceSignificant experience in SQL engineering, data engineering, or database developmentDemonstrated ability to independently lead complex technical workConditions & ScopeThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
