Job Description Johnson Controls, a global leader in thermal management, mission-critical building systems, energy efficiency, and decarbonization, helps customers use energy more productively, reduce carbon emissions, and operate with the precision and resilience required in rapidly expanding industries such as data centers, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, advanced manufacturing, and higher education. Backed by advanced technology, lifecycle services and an industry-leading field organization, we elevate customer performance, turn goals into real-world results and help move society forward.

Sprinkler Project Manager

Johnson Controls is committed to creating safer, smarter, and more sustainable buildings. In this role, you will help deliver fire protection projects that protect people, property, and business continuity while providing the service and professionalism our customers expect.

Role Overview

The Sprinkler Project Manager is responsible for leading assigned fire sprinkler projects from inception through completion. You will own project outcomes, coordinate with design, procurement, and field teams, and help ensure work is delivered on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract requirements, published codes, standards, and project specifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own assigned projects and drive results through every phase of delivery.
  • Review project contracts, scope of delivery, schedule milestones, and execution requirements.
  • Coordinate with design, procurement, and field teams to build and maintain a comprehensive project plan.
  • Develop pipe-on-job dates and manage material, labor, and subcontractor readiness.
  • Track scope changes, document deviations, and submit RFI/COR documentation to capture out-of-scope work.
  • Lead project meetings, participate in jobsite visits as needed, and support Work in Progress reviews.
  • Prepare accurate cost-to-complete reporting and help manage project financial performance.
  • Follow applicable codes, standards, and unique project specifications throughout execution.
How You Will Do It
  • Take full ownership of assigned projects by setting clear priorities, honoring commitments, and acting with integrity, honesty, and transparency.
  • Stay close to the work by understanding the contract, scope, schedule dates, and site realities so you can remove obstacles before they affect delivery.
  • Plan ahead with discipline by aligning design, procurement, and field activities to support schedule, budget, and job readiness.
  • Communicate openly and professionally with customers and team members, keeping expectations clear and relationships strong.
  • Use facts and follow-through to solve problems when scope changes, delays, or project risks arise, and document actions promptly through RFI/COR processes.
  • Work as one team with internal partners, subcontractors, and customers to keep work moving safely and efficiently.
  • Continuously look for better ways to deliver by reviewing costs, improving project controls, and seeking opportunities to beat budget without compromising quality or safety.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Two or more years of experience as a project manager or in design work within the fire protection industry.
  • Ability to work in a matrix structure and resolve conflict while managing multiple complex projects.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with internal and external customers.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Project.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of standards, Underwriter’s requirements, and applicable building codes.
  • NICET Certification.
Nice to Have
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical, business, or equivalent field.
  • Five years of fire protection, construction, or related project management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and understand complex building architectural, mechanical, and electrical documents.
