Job summary

Johnson Controls is seeking Inspectors to perform routine inspections, testing, service, and preventative maintenance on Electrical, Sprinkler, or Suppression life safety product lines. You will document deficiencies, represent the company professionally, and adhere to scheduled inspections with proper coding on digital or print records.

The role requires physical labor, ability to travel, and willingness to learn through the Apprenticeship Program.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Able to obtain and retain licenses required by codes.
  • Experience reading blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specs, and manuals.
  • Experience with hand tools and multimeters.
  • Physically able to lift 50–70 lbs.
  • Work in ladders, scaffolds, and high lift equipment.
  • Willing to travel and work flexible hours including nights/weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine inspections, testing, service and preventative maintenance on Electrical, Sprinkler or Suppression lines.
  • Accurately document deficiencies found during inspections.
  • Represent the company professionally at all times.
  • Complete Service Acknowledgement/inspections with proper coding using laptops, smartphones, or hard copy.
  • Follow and maintain a structured inspection schedule.
  • Perform minor repairs and programming changes on systems under inspection.
  • Complete assigned inspections on time and perform other duties as directed.
  • Carry/move equipment up to 70 lbs and perform physical labor.
  • Assist foreman in installation of sprinkler systems and related components.
  • Work in challenging positions (ladders, scaffolding, high lifts, ducts, crawl spaces).
  • Be enrolled in approved Apprenticeship Program and meet requirements.

Inspectors are responsible for conducting routine inspections, testing, service, and preventative maintenance on Electrical, Sprinkler or Suppression life safety product lines as well as similar competitive manufacturers’ product lines.

How you will do it
  • Responsible for meeting customer expectations while performing quality inspections
  • Accurately discern and document deficiencies found during an inspection
  • Professionally represent the company at all times
  • Complete Service Acknowledgement/inspections with proper coding through communicating devices, such as laptop computers, smartphones, and/or hardcopy
  • Follow and maintain a highly structured inspection schedule
  • Make minor repairs and programming changes to systems being inspected
  • Complete assigned inspections on time
  • Perform other duties as directed
  • Carry/move equipment and tools weighing up to 70lbs and be capable of performing physical labor
  • Assist foreman in the installation of wet, dry, pre-action, and deluge sprinkler systems
  • Perform work in unusual and sometimes difficult positions, such as climbing ladders, scaffolding, and high lift equipment
  • Be enrolled in Grinnell’s approved Apprenticeship Program, maintaining all requirements of the Apprenticeship Standards
  • Have a positive attitude and the ability to learn quickly
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Able to obtain and retain any licenses that are required by National, State and Local codes.
  • Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, programs schematics and operational/product manuals.
  • Experience with hand tools and multi-meter usage.
  • Capable of performing physical labor to include carrying and moving equipment and tools up to 50-70 lbs.
  • Able to work in unusual and sometimes difficult position such as climbing ladders, scaffolding and high lift equipment up to 40 feet, working within ducts, crawl spaces, above ceilings, etc.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including on-call rotation, nights, and weekends to meet customer requirements.
  • Willing to travel out of town.
  • Demonstrate a high level of customer service.
  • Ability to adhere to, implement, and follow safety guidelines and procedures at all times.
  • Strong organizational skills, positive attitude, and an ability to learn quickly.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and driving record that meets company requirements.
  • Able to pass a pre-employment background and drug test.
  • Preferred: NICET level II Sprinkler experience

HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $17-$23(Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
