Job description

Launch a Skilled Career in Precision Manufacturing – No Experience with Springs Required

Midstate Spring, founded in 1939, is one of the last great American springmakers — and we're growing. Our climate-controlled facility in Syracuse, NY, is a hub of high-precision manufacturing, where we build components that power tools, firearms, medical devices, aerospace products, and more.

We're looking for mechanically-minded individuals with manufacturing or machine operating experience who take pride in hands-on work. Springmaking is a highly specialized trade — one that we will teach you. If you're reliable, detail-oriented, and love working with your hands, this is a rare opportunity to build a long-term career in a highly respected craft with a company that invests in your growth.

What You'll Do :

  • Learn to fabricate custom metal springs used in everyday and mission-critical products
  • Operate CNC-style machines designed specifically for springmaking
  • Set up, adjust, and fine-tune machines to exact tolerances
  • Read blueprints and customer specifications
  • Inspect finished parts using calipers, micrometers, and other gauges
  • Work with your hands to shape, cut, and finish components from wire and steel
  • Troubleshoot machine issues and improve setup efficiency over time
  • Collaborate closely with skilled craftspeople and production leaders
  • Train under experienced springmakers and grow your skills month after month

What We're Looking For:

  • At least 2 years of experience in manufacturing, machining, or mechanical assembly
  • Strong mechanical aptitude – if you like fixing things, building, or tinkering, you'll fit right in
  • Solid attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Comfortable with computers and machine interfaces (basic Microsoft Office use required)
  • Willingness to learn a new skill that takes time and patience to master

Nice to Have (But Not Required):

  • Prior experience with CNC machines, mills, lathes, or forming machines
  • Familiarity with hydraulics, pneumatics, or metal fabrication
  • Ability to read blueprints or technical drawings
  • Vocational training or military experience

What We Offer:

  • Hands-on training in a highly specialized and respected trade
  • Competitive pay based on experience
  • Health, dental & life insurance (starting the 1st of the month after hire)
  • 401(k) with company match (eligible after 6 months)
  • Paid Time Off awarded quarterly
  • Climate-controlled facility (you'll never freeze or overheat)

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Comfortable standing for extended periods
  • Hands-on, detail-oriented environment
