Storm Duty Requirements

Tampa Electric and its sister companies serve a role in providing critical services to our community during an emergency. Team members are required to participate in the response/recovery activities related to emergencies/disasters to maintain service to our Tampa Electric customers. Team members are required to work in their normal job duties or other assigned activities. Proper compensation will be made in accordance with the company’s rules and procedures.

Position Summary/Details:

An External Affairs Intern supports the organization’s engagement with government agencies, community stakeholders, and business partners. In this role, they assist with researching public policy issues, coordinating community and corporate events, tracking legislative and regulatory developments, and preparing communications and briefing materials for leadership. The position provides hands‑on experience in relationship management, strategic communications, and regional affairs while contributing to initiatives that strengthen the organization’s presence and impact within the community.

• Assist with researching public policy issues.
• Coordinate community and corporate events.
• Track legislative and regulatory developments.
• Prepare communications and briefing materials for leadership.

Physical Location of Internship:

3600 Midtown Drive, Tampa, FL 33607

Working Conditions:

• Mostly in a normal office environment, a successful candidate will visit the field weekly. This will include riding in a vehicle to attend community events.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

The successful applicant should be enrolled in an accredited university as a college undergraduate or a graduate level post‑secondary educational program in a related discipline for the first semester the student joins the program.

Required Degree:

• Bachelor’s or higher degree in progress

Preferred/Related Discipline:

• Political science or related discipline

Year in School:

• Junior or Senior

Co-Op Program Requirements:

To qualify as a co‑op student, enrollment in the university’s co‑op program (proof of enrollment required); if not eligible for co‑op program (or program unavailable), the student will be considered an intern.
