Job summary

Oglethorpe Power Corp. invites a Spring 2027 Mechanical Engineering Co-op to contribute to data collection and reporting for thermal performance analysis.

You will assist the Sr Reliability Engineer with trends, equipment issues, and field studies across Georgia facilities. You will compile data, run trending analyses, and support publishing reports and presentations while gaining exposure to gas turbines and steam turbines in simple- and combined-cycle configurations.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assist Sr Reliability Engineer with data collection and reporting for thermal performance analysis.
• Identify trends in equipment reliability issues.
• Support project work to determine equipment failures and root cause analysis.
• Travel to Georgia facilities for field observations and data gathering.
• Compile data, perform trending analyses, and help publish reports and presentations.
• Learn about gas turbine and steam turbine tech in simple-cycle and combined-cycle setups.
• Work in an industrial plant, follow safety training, and climb stairs/ladders as needed.
• Interact with plant technicians, engineers, and management to coordinate activities.
• Explore rotations in field engineering, outage/project management, and plant operations.

Spring 2027 Mechanical Engineering Co-op

• Pay will be based on completed credit hours.
• Co-op is responsible for assisting the Sr. Reliability Engineer in data collection and reporting for thermal performance analysis and identifying equipment reliability issue trends.
• May assist with project to determine equipment failures and performance root cause analysis.
• Work directly with the Sr. Reliability Engineer on power plant performance and equipment issues and project development which includes traveling to facilities across Georgia.
• Will compile data, complete trending analysis and support publishing report results and presentations.
• This role will provide an opportunity to gain experience and expand real-world knowledge in the power generation industry utilizing gas turbines and steam turbines technologies in simple-cycle and combined-cycle configurations.
• Must be able to work in an industrial plant, climb stairs and ladder with appropriate supervision and safety training will be provided.
• Responsibilities will include interaction, communication, and collaboration with plant technician, engineers, and management.
• The potential for additional rotations in field engineering, project/outage management, and plant operations & maintenance are other future areas targeted for this co-op position.
