Job summary

Qualifications

Job description

This position is under general supervision, is responsible for assisting with all aspects of the City’s turf management, right-of-way vegetation control, hanging basket, and irrigation programs, and also responsible for assisting with general maintenance of the City’s fountains and parking garages. This position may sometimes be required to assist with the ground’s maintenance of city properties. This position will work with the Right of Way Vegetation/ Turf Management Labor supervisor in accordance with procedures, policies, and standards as specified by the Grounds Maintenance Coordinator and/or Manager.

  • Operates water truck/tanks and other watering devices needed for plant growth and development, sprayers and spraying equipment, mowing equipment, hand held equipment such as edger, trimmer, and back pack blower
  • Utilizes shovels, rakes, saws, brooms, and other tools needed for irrigation related work, pressure washers and other cleaning equipment as needed
  • Must be able to perform clean up duties to include, but not limited to: daily downtown, weekly assigned properties, scheduled events and festivals, emergency (accidents, storms, natural disasters), turf renovation, sodding, seeding, sprigging, thatching, aerating,
  • Communicates well and respectfully with members of the public, fellow workers, crew members, supervisors and all City employees.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds, be on feet and/or walk for majority of the work day, able to navigate through various types of irrigation clocks/timers to optimize the systems most efficiently
  • Actively participates in other duties as required

Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Highly interested in the irrigation and/or landscape work with 2-5 years’ experience in either field. Must possess a valid SC driver’s license. Must have a SC Commercial Pesticide applicator license or be able to obtain such license within 6 months of employment.
