Job summary

Spotswood Elementary School is seeking an Office Paraeducator to support teachers and staff, handling administrative tasks and attendance duties. The position involves greeting visitors, clerical work, and assisting in multiple areas of the building.

The role is a 10-month contract (185 days) with a minimum of 7.5 hours per day, starting immediately. Employment offers robust benefits and opportunities within Spotsylvania County Public Schools.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Associates Degree preferred.
• At least 2 years of experience working with children in educational settings preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greets incoming personnel and manages check-in/out for students, parents and visitors.
• Performs routine clerical duties: copying, typing, answering/making calls, taking attendance, ordering supplies, basic troubleshooting.
• Generates attendance reports and mails letters to parents regarding absences.
• Maintains the student attendance database and student records.
• Sorts and distributes mail and supports other areas as needed (computer lab, library).
• Performs non-instructional duties including cafeteria, bus, hall and office duties as assigned by the principal.
• Requests transportation for students as needed and prepares homework requests for absences.

Job Description

The Office Paraeducator will assist teachers and other professional practitioners by providing administrative support to further enhance the efficiency and productivity of educational environments.

Essential Job Functions:

• Greets incoming personnel, to include the check-in/out procedures of students, parents and other visitors.
• Performs routine clerical duties such as copying, typing, answering/making telephone calls, taking attendance, ordering supplies, and basic troubleshooting.
• Generates reports on student attendance, creates letters to parents regarding student absences.
• Creates and maintains the student attendance database and student records.
• Sorts and distributes all interoffice/postal mail as necessary.
• Works in areas other than the classroom, i.e., computer lab or library, as appropriate
• Performs additional non-instructional duties including, but not limited to, cafeteria duty, bus duty, hall duty, and office duty as assigned by the principal or designee
• Requests transportation for students as needed.
• Prepares homework requests per student absences.

Education and Experience:

Required

• High School Diploma or GED

Preferred

• Associates Degree from an accredited college or university
• A minimum of two (2) years working with children within an instructional, educational or related setting

Employment Terms: Employment may be offered as a 10-Month (185 Day) contract, at a minimum of 7.5 hours worked per day. This position is evaluated annually.
