Summary

This position is located at Youth Sports and Fitness, Fort Drum, NY.


Child and Youth Services (CYS) Employee Childcare Fee applicable to employees working at least 15 hours per week


  • First Child: 100% childcare fee discount (all CYS employees)

  • Second and Subsequent Child: 25% childcare fee discount (all CYS employees)

  • Incentives will not be paid.


Duties


  • Serves as a sports specialist/clinician in a Child and Youth Services (CYS) program, with responsibility for providing support and assistance to the CYS Sports and Fitness Director and installation volunteer sports coaches.

  • Models appropriate behaviors and techniques and helps coaches in creating appropriate environments; selecting materials and equipment; and planning meaningful practices that support the required sport season.

  • Conducts practice and game visits as required for the purpose of providing support and assistance.

  • Helps inspect sports facilities/programs to ensure safety compliance. Recommends purchase of equipment required to maintain proper safety compliance. Secures supplies, equipment, and facilities.

  • Provides oversight and accountability for program participants in compliance with DoD, Army, and local policies, guidance, and standards. Maintains control of and accounts for whereabouts and safety of children and youth.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Requirements


  • Direct Deposit and Social Security Card is required.

  • Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.

  • A one-year probationary period may be required.

  • Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.

  • Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para.2 to include a Child Care Tier 1 background investigation.

  • Must complete a health assessment including all required immunizations.

  • Must possess and maintain the physical ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs, walk, bend, stoop, and stand on a routine basis.

  • Must obtain/maintain certification in CPR/First Aid.

  • Must either currently possess or have the ability to obtain a National Association of Youth Sports Clinician Certification within six months of employment.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of appointment.

A Qualified Candidate Must Possess The Following

Possess a bachelor's degree or higher in Physical Education.


OR

All of the following


  • Experience managing or assisting in the delivery of a sports or physical education program which included both individual and team sports.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the skills and techniques needed for various sports.

  • Experience coaching or working with coaches to apply techniques and required skills/fundamentals for various sports.


In addition to the above qualifications, candidates who possess the following qualifications will be considered "Highly Preferred" or "Best Qualified"

Recommended highly-qualifying: In addition to meeting one of the requirements above, highly qualified candidates will possess experience working in a sports program specifically for children or youth; or at least 12 semester hours in college coursework directly related to children or youth (i.e., PE for children, motor skills development, childhood development, early/elementary/secondary education, health/nutrition for children, child/adolescent psychology, etc.).


This experience must be clearly reflected in your resume. If claiming highly qualifying based on education listed above, transcripts that clearly document child and youth related course work MUST be provided at time of application.

Area of Consideration


  • This job is open to candidates who are currently residing within the local commuting area (defined as a 100-mile radius) of Fort Drum, NY. (Military Spouse Preference (MSP) and Involuntarily Separated Military Preference (ISMP) Preference eligible candidates are included in the area of consideration.)

Allowances and Differentials


  • This job is part of a pay-banded system. Sunday premium pay for regularly scheduled employees and night differential pay may be authorized by the Garrison Commander.

  • Non-foreign overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), and differentials will not be paid, contingent upon eligibility.


Other

As an added employee incentive, the Department of Defense (DoD) granted approval to extend temporary limited commissary privileges (excluding the purchase of tobacco or alcohol products) to CYS employees. This temporary approval expires 31 December 2026.
