Job summary

Dallas Mavericks seek a Sports Scientist to support athlete health, performance, and readiness through comprehensive data collection and analysis of wearable tech, GPS, and wellness tools.

You will develop actionable reports, conduct yearly testing, and collaborate with strength, conditioning and medical staff to optimize training, recovery, and readiness for competition.

The role emphasizes evidence-based practices and ongoing adoption of advanced technologies to drive team performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Science, Biomechanics, Human Performance, or related field.
• Current NSCA-CPSS Certification.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in professional sports or NCAA Division I athletics.
• Demonstrated experience with athlete monitoring systems, performance testing, and sports science technology.
• Strong data analysis and statistical interpretation skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and performance analytics software.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and travel as required.

Responsibilities

• Collect, manage, and analyze athlete performance data from wearables, GPS, force plates, wellness questionnaires, and other platforms.
• Develop reports and dashboards providing actionable insights on readiness, workload, recovery, and trends.
• Conduct testing protocols and performance assessments throughout the year.
• Monitor training loads and provide recommendations to coaching and performance staff.
• Design monitoring strategies to support athletic development and performance enhancement.
• Collaborate with coaches to evaluate effectiveness of training interventions.
• Support return-to-play and injury mitigation strategies with evidence-based practices.
• Communicate findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Stay current on advancements and implement emerging technologies.
