Job summary

YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City is seeking part-time Youth Sports officials and gym monitors to ensure safe, well-run seasonal programs that prioritize player development and fair play.

Officials must arrive early, enforce YMCA rules, and communicate effectively with coaches, participants, and volunteers. Training is provided, and the role includes setting up playing surfaces and maintaining equipment to support a positive, inclusive youth sports experience.

Qualifications

• Must be CPR, AED, O2, and First Aid certified.
• Must attend YMCA officials training.
• Complete Redwoods training within 30 days of hire and renewed annually.
• Know the YMCA sport rules and enforce them with authority.
• Understand the YMCA mission in sports and its Core Values.
• Communicate effectively with all age levels.
• Must be able to lift 30 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Arrive prior to scheduled games and stay late as needed.
• Enforce the YMCA pledge before games.
• Report problems and concerns through the chain of command to the program director.
• Be courteous, respectful, and professional with all participants.
• Enforce YMCA rules for the program.
• Address actions not in line with the YMCA mission.
• Maintain a safe environment by organizing and maintaining equipment and facilities.
• Report incidents to the supervisor.
• Practice approved emergency action plans when needed.
• Be impartial and fair as an official.
• Keep the sport fun and engaging for participants.
• Help players learn the game when appropriate.
• Set up and canvas playing surfaces before games.
• Communicate with parents, coaches, participants, and volunteers.
• Uphold association-wide sports program responsibilities.
• Develop meaningful relationships with members, donors, and volunteers.

With a job in Youth Sports, you can help young athletes grow as players and individuals. Your part-time role at the Y can make a lifelong impact on the children in your community! We're looking for officials and gym monitors who can help us keep our seasonal sports programs running smoothly, putting the development of players at the forefront of all we do.

Position Description

To help ensure a quality program by monitoring and maintaining facilities and equipment used by the YMCA to carry out the program at the highest level possible.

Must act as an extension of the Program Director in charge of sports by addressing any questions and concerns brought by coaches or program participants.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Arrive prior to start of scheduled games and stay late as needed
• Ensure that the YMCA Pledge is being said prior to the start of each game
• Communicate problems and concerns following the chain of command, shared by the participants to program director in charge of sports
• Must be able to relate to all program participants in a courteous, respectful and professional manner
• Have confidence needed to enforce YMCA rules utilized to carry out the program
• Ability to address and respond to any actions that are not in line with the YMCA mission or philosophy
• Must provide the safest possible environment by helping to organize and maintain the program area including any and all YMCA equipment used by program participants
• Report any and all incidents to supervisor
• Responsible for carrying out approved emergency action plans in the event of an emergency
• Be impartial and fair in your duties as an official
• Keep the sport fun for participants
• As appropriate, help players learn the game
• Set up and canvas playing surfaces prior to game to help in the overall safe experience for the players
• Communicate effectively with parents, coaches, participants and volunteers
• Accept responsibility of association wide sports program as needed
• Develop meaningful and sustainable relationships with members, donors and volunteers

Results are positive when participants are having fun by; improving and learning new skills, sharing time with current and new friends, exercising and competing.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Must be certified in CPR, AED, O2, and First Aid. (Training provided by the Y, if needed)
• Must attend and complete YMCA officials training if offered.
• Complete Redwoods training within 30 days of hire and renewed annually.
• Knowing the Y rules of the particular sport completely with the ability to enforce them with authority.
• An understanding of the YMCA mission in sports and how that mission is carried out using the Y's Core Values.
• Must be able to effectively communicate and relate to all age levels.
• Must be able to lift 30 pounds.

Salary Description

$10.00 per hour
