About The Role

As the Sports Instructor, you will assist in implementing and organizing a recreational league or clinic for the upcoming season. You will strive to deliver a quality program where participants can learn the fundamentals of the assigned sport.

Essential Functions

  • Knows and understands all YMCA policies and procedures and ensures that all these procedures are always consistently enforced.
  • Assists as needed in emergency situations and as outlined in emergency procedures.
  • Continuously exhibits honesty, caring, respect, responsibility, reliability, flexibility, maturity, and good decision-making skills.
  • Engages with members, participants, co-workers, directors, and volunteers positively and professionally.
  • Ensures participants’ safety.
  • Implements programs for recreational league and clinic play.
  • Effectively leads a program utilizing training curriculums.
  • Attends all staff meetings and trainings as required.
  • Promotes and represents the mission and core values of the YMCA of WNC.
  • Displays a professional, courteous, and tactful demeanor at all times.
  • Always strive to display a positive and enthusiastic attitude.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

  • Must be at least 14 years of age or older.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Ability to work with and supervise peers, encourage and motivate youth, and maintain a safe environment.
  • Must have a general understanding of sports, rules of the game, and interest in working with sporting leagues.

  • Must be able to clearly see, hear, and speak.
  • Must be able to bend, stand, stoop, and walk for extended periods of time throughout the facility.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to comprehend and communicate written and verbal instructions
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to supervise program activities
