Position Summary

Creates a safe and positive atmosphere for participants to learn to play sports. Promotes character development, safety, and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

Essential Functions
  1. Communicate effectively with coaches and players, maintaining order and creating a safe, inclusive, and fun environment.
  2. Ensure participants are on the team roster and in uniform if applicable.
  3. Enforce rules including participant and parent codes of conduct, coaches' contracts, and posted rules; inform referees/coaches of penalties or improper substitutions.
  4. Complete score sheets during games, including final scores.
  5. Monitor and track YMCA sports equipment, ensuring items are returned after use.
  6. Prepare the site before games or events, including cleaning and setting up necessary equipment.
  7. Maintain emotional maturity by controlling frustrations and diffusing tense situations, showing a positive attitude.
  8. Report any unusual incidents to the Program Director.
  9. Provide age-appropriate sports instruction when in the instructor role.
  10. Follow safety standards, policies, and procedures.
  11. Attend staff meetings, training, and YMCA functions as required.
  12. Maintain open communication with participants, coaches, referees, staff, and supervisors.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Must be at least 16 years old; over 18 preferred.
  • Currently attending high school or have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications are required and must be kept current.
  • Live scan fingerprint clearance.
  • Health screening with negative TB and drug test results.
  • Complete all online required training.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Experience working with diverse populations is a plus.
  • Sports background or organized sport involvement required.
Specific Qualifications
  • Ability to communicate with parents and guardians.
  • Ability to develop participant skills and plan practices and games.
  • Ability to instruct up to 10 children simultaneously.
  • Ability to work indoors or outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Be active and alert at all times.
Working Conditions

Environmental Factors: Indoor and outdoor facilities, exposure to weather and potential hazards, moderate noise level.

Physical Demands: Regularly use hands, stand, walk, sit, reach; occasionally lift up to 50 lbs; vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception.

Skills/Requirements
  • Ability to stand for up to 60 minutes.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Remain active and alert throughout shifts.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $16.50 - $18.98 per hour
