The Specialty Instructor for Soccer, Basketball, T-ball, Pickleball, Flag Football, and Hockey is expected to have a high level of knowledge and formal training in areas such as Martial Arts, Gymnastics, Synchronized Swimming, Dance, Golf, Tennis, or Birthday Parties. Provide support and encouragement to help students learn the specific progressive or competitive program. Ensure appropriate officiating based on the age and experience of participants. Maintain safety and cleanliness of the program area and adhere to all YMCA safety standards and rules.

Qualifications Needed:

• Some college education or equivalent
• 3-5 years of specialized sport experience
• Ability to work with and be sensitive to others while demonstrating a positive coaching style
• Ability to perform activities requiring sustained concentration and attention
• Physical ability to assist participants through skills with a clear understanding of athlete development

Responsibilities:

• Conduct YMCA sports program instruction according to YMCA standards
• Ensure adherence to YMCA progressive or competitive standards and quality
• Provide a safe environment for learning
• Encourage and support staff and students, promoting an enjoyable YMCA experience
• Reinforce YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility through example and recognition
• Arrive at least 15 minutes before scheduled classes for setup and preparation
• Ensure all participants exit safely and the facility is left clean and orderly
• Participate actively as part of the YMCA staff team
• Provide excellent service to members and participants
• Communicate YMCA rules clearly and be accessible and identifiable
• Manage participant behavior collaboratively with supervision and parents
• Complete incident reports and handle feedback appropriately
• Follow the schedule and understand the sport skills required for lesson plans
• Use positive support techniques to develop participants' skills
• Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required
• Perform other related duties as assigned
