Job description

GENERAL FUNCTION: Under the guidance of the Branch Director, the Adult Sports Director provides leadership and management for the Farha Adult Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer, and Flag Football programs. Responsibilities include operations, volunteer development, staff management, budgeting, fundraising, and ensuring a positive program and participant experience in accordance with all Greater Wichita YMCA policies, procedures, and standards. A 40-hour work week is required to fulfill these duties.

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum age of 21
  • At least one year of management experience, including hiring, firing, review, and budgeting
  • Relevant department experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred

Physical/Mental Requirements:

  • Ability to perform physical activities such as climbing stairs, bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching, sitting, standing for extended periods, walking, lifting/moving up to 50 pounds, finger dexterity, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing, and visual acuity
  • Effective leadership, delegation, and communication skills (oral and written)
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and task management skills; ability to make independent decisions in a dynamic environment
  • Attention to detail with high accuracy and alertness
  • Initiative and ability to work independently

Job Requirements:

  • Commitment to YMCA mission, vision, and values
  • Attend New Employee Orientation within 30 days of hire
  • Complete CPR/AED, First Aid, O2, and Listen First Workshop
  • Learn emergency procedures and branch action plans
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures
  • Work evenings and weekends as needed

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Staff Development:

  • Recruit, train, develop, schedule, and manage staff and officials to provide exceptional service
  • Ensure adherence to personnel policies and procedures
  • Conduct performance evaluations and manage payroll and personnel data
  • Support staff development and maintain succession plans
  • Develop strategies for staff motivation and retention
  • Document staff, officials, and coaches meetings and trainings
  • Ensure volunteers have completed background checks

Program Operations:

  • Communicate YMCA’s mission, vision, and values
  • Implement relationship-based engagement strategies
  • Ensure program compliance with YMCA standards
  • Expand program enrollment and participation
  • Manage registration processes
  • Organize and train teams, officials, and coaches, promoting diversity and inclusion
  • Monitor and evaluate program quality and volunteer effectiveness
  • Schedule, communicate, and supervise rentals
  • Evaluate programs regularly and implement improvements
  • Manage game day logistics and staff
  • Be visible and accessible to staff and participants
  • Recruit, train, and schedule officials
  • Respond promptly to inquiries and concerns
  • Communicate program updates effectively

Fiscal Management:

  • Develop and monitor the annual budget, ensuring financial goals are met
  • Grow enrollment through quality programs and excellent customer service
  • Implement efficient operating practices
  • Create staff schedules within payroll budgets

Community and Fundraising:

  • Lead aspects of the Strong Community Campaign and other fundraising efforts to meet goals

Facilities:

  • Secure, schedule, and prepare athletic facilities and equipment
  • Transport and set up equipment for activities
  • Follow risk management procedures
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of facilities and equipment
  • Keep inventory records

Other:

  • Participate in branch management and support overall operations
  • Communicate promptly with leadership and staff
  • Attend training and professional development events
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
