Job summary

GUARDIAN SELECTION LIMITED in Stockton-on-Tees is seeking a passionate Sports Coach to support pupils’ learning, development and wellbeing. The role involves classroom-based support with potential to deliver PE sessions and assist pupils through 1:1 and small-group activities.

You will use sport to promote positive behaviour, teamwork and engagement in education, working with teachers, SENCOs and support staff.

Qualifications

• Proven ability to support pupils with diverse needs in a school setting.
• Experience delivering or assisting with PE/sport activities is preferred.
• DBS check via Update Service or willingness to obtain one is required.

Responsibilities

Job description

A welcoming and supportive school in Stockton-on-Tees is seeking a passionate and enthusiastic Sports Coach to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity for a Sports Coach who enjoys working with children and young people and is keen to use their sporting experience to support pupils' learning, development and wellbeing.

The Sports Coach role will involve classroom-based support, with potential opportunities to deliver PE sessions and assist pupils through 1:1 and small-group activities. This position is ideal for someone who can use sport and physical activity to promote positive behaviour, teamwork, confidence and engagement in education.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide classroom-based support to pupils across different year groups.
• Support teachers with learning activities, classroom organisation and pupil engagement.
• Deliver or assist with engaging PE and sporting activities where appropriate.
• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with additional learning needs.
• Use sport and physical activity to develop teamwork, communication and confidence.
• Support pupils with SEND, ASD, ADHD and SEMH needs.
• Encourage positive behaviour, emotional wellbeing and participation in learning.
• Help pupils develop resilience, independence and social skills.
• Support pupils who may experience behaviours that challenge.
• Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and support staff.
• Maintain a safe, inclusive and positive learning environment.

The Ideal Sports Coach Will Have

• Previous experience working as a Sports Coach, PE Assistant, Teaching Assistant, Youth Worker or in a similar role.
• A strong interest in sport, physical activity and child development.
• Experience working with children or young people in a school, community or educational setting.
• Confidence supporting pupils on a 1:1 and small-group basis.
• Experience working with pupils with SEND, SEMH or additional learning needs would be advantageous.
• A patient, enthusiastic and adaptable approach.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• The ability to promote positive behaviour and encourage pupil participation.
• Experience supporting pupils with behaviours that challenge would be beneficial.
• A relevant sports qualification or coaching experience would be desirable.
• An enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
• A fully checkable employment and reference history.

Competitive daily rates of £90-£120 per day.
