Varsity Assistant Coach

What You’ll Do

The role of an Avenues coach is to instruct our student-athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary to realize individual and team success. At the same time, the coach must provide a foundation for integrity, pride of accomplishment, sportsmanship, self-discipline, goal setting, teamwork and self-confidence.

Head Coaches will:

Breakdown and teach the fundamental skills for players at all levels
Attend all scheduled games and practices
Manage and coordinate practice and game plans
Be responsible for handling all administrative duties related to their team
Attend all necessary athletic and school meetings and events

Assistant Coaches will:

Support head coach in promoting the mission of the program
Contribute to and/or run practice sessions
Gather and record statistical information
Attend all scheduled games and practices
Attend all necessary athletic and school meetings and events

About You

What You’ll Bring

Coaches bring all or most of the following:

Head coaches have 2+ years of cross-country head coaching experience
Assistant coaches have 1+ years of coaching or related experience
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
Strong organizational skills
Ability to work well with student athletes, parents, faculty/staff and the athletics department
Current First Aid/CPR certification, or ability to get training before the season commences
Knowledge of the rules and regulations of the sport, with special consideration given to those having experience with the desired age category
Enthusiasm, commitment, patience, and a passion for teaching the game are essential to this position
Ability to motivate and provide positive leadership to our student athletes by following our school and athletic mission
High-level competitive playing experience (preferred)

Practice and Meet Schedule:

This is a part time and seasonal position averaging 5-10 hours a week. Varsity roles meet 4x a week and Middle School 3x a week. Practices are 1.5 hours each and competitions up to 1.5 hours, not including travel time. On race days, athletes leave between 2:00 pm-3:00 pm so candidates should be available at this time as well.

Varsity Schedule:

Meets 4x per week for 1.5 hours. Mondays, Tuesdays & Thursdays from 4-5:30pm and 2:45-4:15pm on Wednesdays. The team races in 1-2 meets per week, starting between 4-5pm.

Middle School Schedule:

Meets 3x a week for 1.5 hours from 4-5:30pm Mondays, Tuesdays & Thursdays or 2:45-4:15pm on Wednesdays. The team races in 1-2 meets per week starting around 4/4:30pm.

Additional Information

Coach pay rates range from $2,400.00-$3,000.00 depending on coach level and experience.
