Position Description
The Sport Scientist, YNT will support the Youth National Teams and all sport science practices across U.S. Soccer. This individual will align with the High-Performance department’s mission to maximize performance across all development programs. They will collaborate with the team to deliver world-class sport science support to the National Teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years of practical performance experience in a professional or youth academy setting
  • Willing to travel up to 50% of the year
  • Available for non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Physical ability to stand long durations, squat, bend, lift, and climb ladders
  • Ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds
  • First Aid and CPR certification
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Power BI

Primary Responsibilities

  1. Provide performance support for YNT as directed by the Sports Science Senior Manager or Senior Sport Scientist
  2. Travel extensively with YNTs for training camps and matches
  3. Collaborate with coaches on training plan design and implementation
  4. Monitor, test, and support strength, conditioning, and nutrition in line with standards
  5. Ensure accurate data collection and storage
  6. Build relationships with clubs and academic institutions for data exchange
  7. Work with Sports Medicine staff on injury prevention strategies
  8. Manage inventory and evaluate new performance technology
  9. Provide performance education to players
  10. Support development of sport science practices across U.S. Soccer

Additional Duties

  • Contribute to education efforts for players, coaches, and staff
  • Support research and innovation initiatives
  • Develop internal resources for the High-Performance Department
  • Assist in developing sport science network staff

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • CSCS or equivalent certification
  • At least 2 years of performance experience in a relevant setting
  • Willing to travel and work flexible hours
  • Physical capability to perform required tasks
  • First Aid and CPR certified
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Power BI

Desirable Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in related fields
  • Additional certifications (e.g., CPSS, ISAK)
  • Experience with youth athletes and monitoring systems
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
