The University of Minnesota's School of Kinesiology invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor in sport and exercise psychology. The successful candidate will lead an internationally recognized research program, teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and mentor students from diverse backgrounds on a 9-month, full-time appointment in Minneapolis.

Salary ranges for the two ranks are listed as $87,000-$97,000 for Assistant Professor and $103,000-$113,000 for

Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate (PhD preferred) in kinesiology, exercise science, psychology, or a closely related field.
  • Strong publication record in sport, exercise, sport medicine, or rehabilitation psychology.
  • Evidence of effective teaching at graduate/undergraduate levels.

Responsibilities

About the Job

The School of Kinesiology in the College of Education and HumanDevelopment at the University of Minnesota seeks to fill atenure-tenure track Assistant / Associate Professor position insport and exercise psychology. The successful candidate will haveeducation, expertise, and research accomplishments in sport and/orexercise psychology. Candidates with expertise in sports medicineand/or rehabilitation psychology will also be considered. Thecandidate will join an interdisciplinary department committed toexcellence in faculty development and mentoring in research,teaching, and service. Successful candidates will demonstratealignment and ability to build interdisciplinary collaborationsacross the School of Kinesiology’s core areas and research centersand across the University of Minnesota. Candidates will alsoidentify opportunities for alignment with robust resourcesavailable within the College of Education and Human Development andacross the University of Minnesota that support excellence acrossresearch, teaching, and service (e.g., Research MethodologyConsulting Center, Center for Educational Innovation, Office forPublic Engagement). The candidate would have evidence of commitmentto mentoring and training graduate students from diversebackgrounds. This is a 9-month, full-time appointment located onthe Minneapolis campus with a target start date of August 30,2027.

The budgeted salary range for this position is $87,000 - $97,000for the rank of Assistant Professor and $103,000 - $113,000 for therank of Associate Professor. Final salary offers are dependent onthe candidate's experience, skills, and internal equity within thedepartment.

Job Responsibilities

This position will be responsible for:

  • Establishing and maintaining a nationally and internationallyrecognized independent research program in area of expertise.
  • Securing internal and external funding for research agendarelated to area of expertise.
  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and developingcurriculum in areas of expertise within sport, exercise, sportmedicine, and/or rehabilitation psychology and more broadlykinesiology.
  • Recruiting, supervising, and mentoring undergraduate andgraduate students in sport, exercise, sport medicine, and/orrehabilitation psychology.
  • Disseminating research through publications and presentationsin the scientific community.
  • Providing service to the school, university, community, andprofession.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • An earned doctorate, Ph.D. preferred, in Kinesiology, ExerciseScience, Psychology, or a closely related field with an emphasis insport, exercise, sport medicine, and/or rehabilitation psychology.ABD candidates will be considered (Assistant Professor).
  • Record of emerging (Assistant Professor) or sustained(Associate Professor) publication and research productivity insport, exercise, sport medicine, and/or rehabilitationpsychology.
  • Evidence of emerging (Assistant Professor) or sustained(Associate Professor) national and international scholarlyreputation in sport, exercise, sport medicine, and/orrehabilitation psychology.
  • Evidence of potential (Assistant Professor) or documentedexperience (Associate Professor) of effective teaching skills forgraduate and/or undergraduate instruction related to sport,exercise, sport medicine, and/or rehabilitation psychology.
  • Evidence of effective collaboration with people from a varietyof communities, backgrounds, and identities

  • Potential for (Assistant Professor) or documented evidence of(Associate Professor) success in contributing to academic programdevelopment.
  • Demonstration of emerging (Assistant Professor) or current(Associate Professor) extramural grant support.
