Job summary

University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign's Department of Astronomy seeks a Sponsored Research Grants Coordinator to manage pre-award and post-award activities for sponsored projects. You will serve as liaison between investigators, the Astronomy Business Office, SPA, and sponsors, guiding proposals from submission to close-out.

The role requires experience in sponsored research administration, budgeting, and compliance with federal regulations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field; required.
• Professional work experience in sponsored research administration required.
• Familiarity with federal electronic research administration systems preferred.
• GAAP and GAS knowledge is expected.
• Experience in university or research settings is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary liaison for pre-award and post-award processes across departments.
• Review solicitations and guide submission of proposals across areas such as cosmology, instrumentation and theory.
• Develop complex project budgets and prepare components for proposals using federal systems.
• Counsel researchers on pre- and post-award requirements and regulatory compliance.
• Monitor expenditures and advise on use of research funding per sponsor terms.
• Facilitate project close-outs including billing and final reporting.
