Job summary

Portland State University in Oregon is seeking a Departmental Research Administrator to partner with faculty and research teams in the administration and stewardship of sponsored projects. The DRA will support post‑award management, monitor funds, rebudget, coordinate effort, forecast, and prepare reports throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with 3+ years of related experience.
  • Experience managing or supporting sponsored projects in regulated environments.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple priorities and manage complex workflows.
  • Ability to communicate complex policies clearly to varied audiences.
  • Experience interpreting sponsor/regulatory requirements for finances and operations.
  • Experience with sponsored projects systems and ERP platforms.
  • Knowledge of sponsored projects administration principles and financial stewardship.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).

Responsibilities

  • Assist Principal Investigators with project implementation, financial monitoring, rebudgeting, effort coordination, forecasting, reporting, and closeout activities.
  • Interpret and apply sponsor, institutional, and regulatory requirements to support decision‑making.
  • Coordinate multiple priorities and complex workflows with attention to detail.
  • Communicate policies and financial concepts to stakeholders of varying experience levels.
  • Identify issues, analyze risks, and develop practical solutions in a dynamic environment.
  • Collaborate across administrative units to support shared processes or outcomes.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of federal research regulations (OMB Uniform Guidance, FAR, sponsor policies).
  • Utilize sponsored projects administration systems and enterprise financial systems.
