Job summary

Pauley Construction, LLC invites applications for a Fiber Splicer to join our telecommunications outside plant team in Phoenix. You will splice overhead, underground, or submarine cables, read drawings, and ensure work meets standards.

This entry-level to experienced role requires the ability to lift up to 80 lbs, pass drug tests, and work in variable conditions. We offer competitive pay, benefits, and opportunities to grow with a national construction leader.

Qualifications

  • 0-1 or more years of experience as a fiber splicer with experience on outside plant or system installations, working from blueprints, specifications, and system documentation.
  • Ability to lift up to 80 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Splice overhead, underground or submarine multiple conductor cables with guidance.
  • Climb utility poles or towers, use truck‑mounted lift‑bucket or descend into underground vaults.
  • Cut sheath from installed cable to access defective cable connections and cut and peel sheath and insulation from newly installed cable and conductors.
  • Test (trace or phase out) each conductor to identify corresponding conductors in adjoining cables, using test lamp or bell system.
  • Read and interpret mechanical, electrical, digital drawings, maps, blueprints diagrams, etc.

You will perform the duties of a fiber splicer as part of the construction of telecommunications outside plant to ensure scope of work performed is within standards required by the customer.

What You’ll Do
  • With guidance, splice overhead, underground or submarine multiple conductor cables.

What You’ll Need

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to lift up to 80 lbs.
Apprentice/Entry Level
  • Basic understanding of splicing principles or ability to learn.
  • Basic experience with electrical work.
  • Experience working from hand‑holes and manholes.
  • Must pass company drug testing.
  • Must know the color code system for cable pairs.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces.
  • Possesses strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work with internal and external customers.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills to effectively communicate with product vendors and customers.
  • Ability to work from oral or written instructions and plan work without direct supervision.
  • Proficient personal computer operations skills.
  • Comply with all safety regulations and maintain a successful safety record.
  • Assume all duties as assigned.
Additional Requirements
  • Must possess, or obtain upon employment, a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age to operate company equipment or to drive company vehicles.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and company drug screening.
  • Must attend and pass all required company training as needed.
  • May be required to work over‑time, after hours, on weekends, for emergencies or be on‑call as work is needed.
  • May include working nights and holidays as needed.
  • May be required to travel in state or overnight as necessary to meet business and job requirements.
  • Regular and timely attendance is an essential function of this position.

  • Stand, crouch, sit, bend, use hands and fingers to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms to spaces both high and low. Stand, walk, climb, balance, crawl, crouch, lift, hold or stoop while on shift.
  • Noise level in the work environment is moderate. This position will be out in the field on job sites as well as in the office.
  • Regular exposure to outside weather conditions: extreme heat and cold temperatures; rain, snow, sleet, dust and adverse driving conditions including wet roads, icy roads, and fog.
  • Required to lift or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds.
  • May be exposed to dust, fumes or other airborne pathogens.
  • May be exposed to toxic or corrosive chemicals as well as moving machinery parts and pieces.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus near and/or far as needed.
Pay Range

The hourly wage range for the Splicer I Fiber role is $24 – $26 depending on experience.
