Description

Vincentian Home is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Spiritual Care Coordinator to support the spiritual and emotional well-being of our residents and their families.

This full-time or part-time position typically works Monday through Friday, with some flexibility for weekends and holidays as needed.

The Spiritual Care Coordinator plays an important role in creating a welcoming, resident-centered environment where individuals of all backgrounds are treated with kindness, dignity, and respect. This position works closely with the Community Life Department and the spiritual care team to provide meaningful pastoral care, religious services, spiritual support, and end-of-life ministry.

What You'll Do
Spiritual & Pastoral Care
  • Develop and implement a continuum of spiritual care services that addresses the individual needs, beliefs, and wishes of residents and families.
  • Perform initial spiritual assessments and document resident needs and preferences in PCC.
  • Conduct regular visits with residents and provide ongoing spiritual support.
  • Provide religious services and activities, including Eucharistic liturgies, Sacraments of Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick, distribution of the Eucharist to room-bound residents, and other services appropriate to various denominations.
  • Pray with residents who are seriously ill or approaching end of life.
  • Provide compassionate support to residents and families during times of illness, death, grief, and loss.
  • Be available to residents, families, and employees for conversations related to spiritual concerns, coping, grief, death, and other life challenges.
  • Conduct "Final Farewell" services following the death of a resident and attend resident wakes or funerals when duties permit.
  • Provide spiritual ministry on weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with the Community Life Department and members of the spiritual care team to coordinate services and activities.
  • Recruit, train, develop, and provide ongoing support and supervision to spiritual care volunteers.
  • Facilitate monthly spiritual care team meetings.
  • Keep facility and VCS leadership informed about spiritual care programs, activities, and religious services.
  • Consult with administration regarding spiritual care and related policy development.
Program & Administrative Support
  • Develop annual goals and objectives in collaboration with the Administrator and Manager of Community Life.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of spiritual care services and resident participation.
  • Assist with chapel operations, including supplies, reimbursements, clergy and Eucharistic Minister schedules, and liturgy intentions.
  • Help maintain a library of spiritual books, magazines, videos, CDs, and other resources for residents, families, staff, and volunteers.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Follow all facility and department policies, procedures, and work rules.
  • Promote and support a resident-centered care environment in all interactions.
  • Perform other duties and services as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree or comparable work experience.

Preferred:

  • Two years of pastoral experience in a healthcare setting.
  • One unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE).

This position works in a long-term care environment that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

The Spiritual Care Coordinator may encounter a variety of conditions common to a healthcare setting, including unpleasant odors, residents who may become physically or verbally aggressive, infectious diseases, bodily fluids or blood, hazardous materials, and facility equipment.

Working conditions are generally indoors with normal indoor temperatures, although occasional outdoor duties may be required depending on the needs of the position and season.
