Job summary

The George Washington University Hospital (GW Hospital) is seeking a Speech-Language Pathologist for the ARU to collaborate with an interdisciplinary team and deliver adult inpatient rehabilitation services in Washington, DC.

Responsibilities include CSE, MBSS, FEES, speaking valve assessments, and post-operative care for laryngectomy patients, with ongoing team conferences to review care plans and progress.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology required.
• Minimum 1 year post-graduation experience in Inpatient Rehab or Acute Care.
• Independent in performing MBSS.
• Independent in performing FEES (preferred).
• Independent with speaking valve assessment and treatment for trach patients weaned from vent.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate closely with the interdisciplinary care team, especially Rehab physicians and APPs, as part of plan of care discussions.
• Attend formal in-person team conferences several times per week to review patient progress.
• Provide adult ARU services including diagnostic and treatment modalities such as CSE, MBSS, FEES, and post-op care for total laryngectomy patients.

ARU SLPs at GW Hospital provide adult patients admitted to the ARU with the full range of diagnostic and treatment modalities in the SLP’s scope of practice: Clinical Swallow Evaluation (CSE), Modified Barium Swallow Study (MBSS), Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES), formal speech-language and cognitive assessments, speaking valve assessments, and post-op care for total laryngectomy patients.

Job Summary

SLPs at GW Hospital are expected to collaborate closely with the entire interdisciplinary care team, especially Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation physicians and advanced practice providers, Rehab nurses, OTs, PTs, and case management. This collaboration includes formal, in-person team conference meetings several times per week to discuss each patient’s plan of care and progress.
