The primary responsibility of the Speech and Language Therapist (ST) is to prevent, evaluate, assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders as ordered by a physician. You will ensure the highest quality of care for our residents at all times.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide skilled, medically necessary speech and language therapy assessments and develop individualized treatment plans to increase clients' independence and functioning.
  • Provide aural rehabilitation for clients who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Implement augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems for individuals with severe expressive and/or language comprehension disorders.
  • Provide training and education to clients, families, caregivers, and other professionals.
  • Coordinate with other professionals for diagnostic swallowing procedures (MBSS, FEES) as ordered by a physician.
  • Supervise provisional licensees, students, and support personnel in accordance with licensure requirements and standards.
  • Demonstrate competent technical skills according to current speech therapy standards.
  • Communicate changes in residents' conditions and participate in care conferences and discharge planning.
  • Maintain accurate billing records and clinical documentation.
  • Respond promptly to family requests and concerns.
  • Coordinate training with Restorative Nursing and other care staff.
  • Ensure resident safety by preventing abuse or neglect and maintaining confidentiality.
Department Duties:
  • Assist with training and education of staff and partners.
  • Perform screening rounds as directed to assess needs and safety.
  • Provide recommendations for improvement and safety.
  • Participate in student development and educational programs.
  • Ensure compliance with education, training, and competency requirements.
  • Maintain cleanliness and readiness of the therapy department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in post-acute or long-term care environments (preferred).
  • Knowledge of current speech therapy practices, laws, and regulations related to nursing care facilities.
  • Current, unencumbered Colorado Speech Therapy License (required).
  • Current ASHA certification.
  • BLS certification as requested.
  • Vital Stim certification as requested.
  • COVID vaccine required or valid exemption.
