Job Description
CLASS TITLE: SPEECH THERAPIST

BASIC FUNCTION: To help reduce or eliminate speech and language impairments that interfere with the individual student’s ability to derive full benefit from the district’s educational program.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Serves as a resource to school staffmembers in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement.
  • Provides a therapeutic program to meet individual needs of speech and language impaired children.
  • Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing, referring and identifying suspected speech and language impairments.
  • Provides a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, fluency, voice, and language impairments.
  • Provides hearing screenings for specified grade levels and referrals.
  • Assists in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate.
  • Provides in-service education and serves as a consultant to teachers and school staff members.
  • Keeps ongoing records for the individual student receiving therapy or other school-provided speech services.
  • Maintains lists of referred, screened, and eligible students.
  • Assumes primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining needed equipment and supplies.
  • Adheres to the professional code of ethics.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
  • Is familiar with and incorporates the use of technology in daily tasks.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

187 days. Salary and work year to be established by the Board
