Job Objective:

Implements treatment plans and selects modalities to meet specific established goals. Provides prescribed speech therapy treatment to facilitate the rehabilitation of mentally or physically handicapped patients. Assists in the evaluation of patient progress and recommends discharge planning. Conducts and assists with patient activities and maintains appropriate records.

Job Description:

Education: Required: Master's degree in Speech Therapy (ST) or Speech Language Pathology if hired after July 1, 2026

Licensure/Certification: Required: Licensed by the ST Board of State of California; American Heart Association BLS

Experience: Preferred: Speech therapy or healthcare experience

Reports To: Manager-Speech Therapy

Supervises: N/A

Ages of Patients: Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, Geriatric

Blood Borne Pathogens: Moderate Potential

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities: Ability to communicate with patients, healthcare professionals, and staff to ensure clear and accurate exchange of information, Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently to meet deadlines, Basic speech therapy skills, Knowledge, skills, and ability to administer all department modalities, programs, and protocols appropriate to the age of the patients served, Written and verbal communication skills

Essential Responsibilities
  1. Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
  2. Performs evaluation and established treatment plans based on age specific, cultural, and rehabilitative needs and in compliance with hospital licensing and accreditation standards and in compliance with the Speech Therapy Practice Act.
  3. Provides effective therapy treatments.
  4. Consistently and appropriately delegates patient treatment procedures and modalities.
  5. Provides safe and comprehensive discharge planning.
  6. Individual productivity meets department standards.
  7. Provides thorough, timely, professional, and consistent patient care documentation through HED.
  8. Utilizes all resources to assist with patient flow as applicable (prints forms, schedules patients, etc.).
  9. Provides effective education and mentoring for student interns as assigned.
  10. Participates in special department programs.
  11. Facilitates interdisciplinary communication and coordination to maximize patient outcomes.
  12. Communicates positively, appropriately, and in a timely fashion to all communications including patients, co-workers, supervisors, other departments, physicians, etc.
  13. Maintains equipment supplies and treatment areas.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned.
