Job description

Inova Fair Oaks Hospital Outpatient Services is seeking a PRN Speech Pathologist to work 2 shifts per month, including 1 major and 1 minor holiday. Additional hours are available based on census needs.

Speech Language Pathologist Job Responsibilities:
  • Document evaluation results clearly and comprehensively, including all essential elements according to department policy.
  • Complete daily progress notes reflecting patients' responses to treatment, performance, assessments relevant to treatment plans, discharge needs, and summaries as needed. Discharge notes should include treatment course, progress toward goals, discharge recommendations, and education provided to patients and families. Documentation should be clear, concise, legible, and timely, supporting treatment continuity and reimbursement.
  • Communicate with families, physicians, and other healthcare team members proactively to address patients' needs and facilitate effective treatment planning. Provide appropriate educational materials tailored to patients' understanding and motivation.
  • Include families and caregivers in education and training as appropriate.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members, be receptive to feedback, and adapt as needed. Provide instruction and supervision to assistive personnel following policies and regulations.
  • Maintain productivity standards, utilize non-billable time efficiently, and complete administrative tasks such as time cards, coverage notes, and charge entries within established timeframes. Contribute to departmental education efforts and assume leadership roles in committees and projects as appropriate. Demonstrate fiscal responsibility regarding supplies, equipment, billing, and staffing resources.

Additional Requirements:
  • Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) upon start date
  • Licensure: VA Speech Language Pathologist License
  • Experience: Not required; 1 year in acute care preferred
  • Education: Master's Degree in Speech Pathology or Communication Sciences Disorders accredited by ASHA
