Job Summary

The Speech-Language Pathologist, with an unrestricted Massachusetts license, is responsible for providing evaluation and treatment services for patients referred with speech, language and/or swallowing disorders. Services are provided on an outpatient basis.

Our Speech Pathology team services patients who have a wide variety of communication and swallowing disorders at the inpatient and outpatient levels. Our team currently works with adults at the inpatient level, adults and pediatrics at the outpatient level, and completes adult video fluoroscopic swallow studies (VFSS) and fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES).

We are currently looking for a Speech Pathologist who provides skilled speech-language and swallowing services as assigned to pediatrics in the outpatient setting on alternating Saturday mornings (2-3x/month) at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital in accordance with State Licensure Statute and Regulations, Professional Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics, applicable federal, state and regulatory agencies’ standards and regulations, hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Bilingual therapists are highly encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities include:
  1. Provide outpatient speech and language services on alternating Saturday mornings (2-3x/month) to pediatric patients during weekend hours of operation. Areas of service include but are not limited to expressive and receptive language, articulation, and evaluation and use of Augmentative Alternative Communication devices.
  2. Evaluate patient's communication and swallowing function using standardized evaluations, clinical evaluations, and parent/patient report. Identify speech and/or language disorders and associated dysfunction(s). In collaboration with patient and/or caregiver, develop a treatment plan with treatment goals aimed at maximizing function.
  3. Provide appropriate treatment for patient based upon patient/caregiver goals to maximize outcomes.
  4. Demonstrate competency in all clinical knowledge and skills specific to the patient case type(s) in assigned area of care.
  5. Consult with other members of the healthcare team to ensure coordination and effectiveness of therapies provided.
  6. Manage patient caseload assigned.
  7. Maintain documentation per departmental policy and format that is accurate, complete, and timely, demonstrating effective written and oral communication skills.
  8. Participate in activities aimed at increasing knowledge, skills, and professional development.
  9. Participate in departmental meetings to help formulate policies, procedures, and program development.
  10. Perform all other duties as assigned.
  11. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient's services by the Speech Pathology team.

Experience working with pediatrics at the outpatient level, especially in expressive and receptive language, and evaluation and treatment of children who use Alternative Augmentative Communication devices, is highly desirable. Bilingual therapists are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

Education

Master's Degree in Speech Therapy required. This role does not accept experience in lieu of a degree.

Licenses and Credentials

  • Speech-language Pathologist [State License]
  • Basic Life Support [BLS Certification]
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology [CCC-SLP] - preferred

Experience

1-2 years of outpatient pediatric speech pathology experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Familiarity with diagnostic assessments for speech and language.
  • Strong interpersonal and effective communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability to incorporate new clinical procedures and perform services independently.
  • Understanding of contemporary audiology and speech-language pathology scope of practice.
  • Knowledge of state standards, federal and state regulations.
