Job summary

UC San Diego Health seeks a Speech-Language Pathologist to evaluate and treat inpatients with speech, language, cognitive, swallowing, or voice disorders. You will document assessments, develop goals, and may perform modified barium swallow studies.

You will collaborate with the care team, educate staff, and represent the department to the broader medical community while maintaining UCSD Health System core values.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an approved institution.
  • California licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP).
  • ASHA CCC-SLP certification required.
  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to obtain within 6 months.
  • At least 1 year of experience as a licensed SLP in a large healthcare setting, ICU experience, and experience with tracheostomies and laryngectomies preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate inpatients with speech, language, cognitive, swallowing or voice disorders.
  • Deliver evaluation and treatment and document findings and goals.
  • Perform services that may include modified barium swallow studies.
  • Complete required documentation and share patient information across the continuum of care.
  • Educate departmental staff in advanced clinical care and customer service.
  • Represent the department to the medical and general community.

Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Lpathology (CCC-SLP)

Job description

Responsible for speech therapy patient service delivery including evaluation and treatment of routine and complex patients. Responsibilities include evaluating inpatients with speech, language/cognitive, swallowing or voice disorders, completing appropriate documentation/reports and developing and implementing appropriate treatment goals. Performs services that may include modified barium swallow studies. Performs other related duties. Completes required documentation and communicates patient information across the continuum of care. Participates in training and program development and represents the department to the medical and general community. Demonstrates competence in the UCSD Health System core values. Responsible for education of departmental staff in areas of advanced clinical care and customer service.

  • Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an educational institution approved by the Board of Speech-Language Pathology, passage of a Board-approved examination.

  • Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) - issued by the state of California.

  • Certificate of clinical competence in speech pathology awarded by the American Speech and Hearing Association.

  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.

  • One (1) year of experience as a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist in a large healthcare setting, including experience working in the ICU and treating patients with tracheostomies and laryngectomies and experience serving as a Clinical Instructor is preferred.

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $141,211 - $156,579 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $67.63 - $74.99

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
