Job Summary

The Speech Pathologist is responsible for diagnosing and providing therapy for patients ranging from neonates to adults presenting disorders of communication and swallowing. The role includes planning, organizing, and coordinating care, setting outcome goals, and implementing interventions, while effectively using agency and community resources to support patient independence in their homes.

Responsibilities
  • Assess patients and deliver clinically appropriate evaluation and therapy services for disorders of communication and swallowing.
  • Evaluate and treat developmental disorders, clinical dysphagia, modified barium swallow studies, speaking valve, and oral motor disorders.
  • Ensure evaluations are timely and accurate.
  • Provide speech therapy to patients across age groups, using strategies based on patient age, diagnosis, evidence, and best practice.
  • Document results of services in the EMR and charge accurately, completing documentation within specified timeframes.
  • Supervise students, clinical fellows, therapy technicians, and volunteers as needed.
  • Participate in departmental and programmatic activities.
Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Speech Pathology.
Licenses & Certifications
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Licensed Speech Therapy through the Louisiana Board of Examiners for Speech‑Language Pathology and Audiology.
  • New graduates must obtain Certification of Clinical Competency by ASHA within one year of hire.
