Job description

Your job is more than a job. The Speech Pathologist is responsible for diagnosing and providing therapy for patients ranging from neonates to adults who demonstrate disorders of communication and swallowing. Plans, organizes, and coordinates the care of all assigned cases. In collaboration with other disciplines and professionals, selects outcome goals and skilled interventions, effectively using agency and community resources to achieve patient and family independence with care in the patient's residence.

Responsibilities
Assessment Skills
  • Delivers clinically appropriate evaluation and therapy services to patients with disorders of communication and swallowing.
  • Evaluates and provides treatment for developmental disorders, clinical dysphagia, Modified Barium Swallow study, speaking valve, and oral motor disorders.
  • Ensures evaluations are timely and accurate.
Treatment Skills
  • Provides treatment to patients referred for Speech Therapy.
  • Capable of delivering Speech Therapy services to patients with a variety of diagnoses.
  • Uses appropriate strategies based on patient’s age, diagnosis, evidence, and best practice.
Documentation
  • Documents results of Speech Therapy services in the EMR.
  • Documentation is completed within designated timeframes.
  • Documentation and charges accurately reflect time spent with the patient.
Other Professional Activities
  • May supervise students, clinical fellows, therapy technicians, and volunteers.
  • May take an active role in departmental or programmatic activities.
Qualifications
Experience Qualifications

Master's Degree in Speech Pathology.

Licenses and Certifications
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support Health Care Provider.
  • Licensed Speech Therapy through the Louisiana Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.
  • New graduates must obtain Certification of Clinical Competency by ASHA within one year of hire.
