SPEECH PATHOLOGIST

Job Type: Full-time with benefits

This is a technical professional position responsible for providing speech therapy by administering prescribed treatment and diagnostic tests to clients. Work is performed under general supervision with leeway allowed for the use of independent judgment in the performance of professional responsibilities. Supervision of others is not normally a function of this position. Does related work as required.

Typical Work Activities

Administers diagnostic tests for hearing, articulation, connected speech, discrimination, ability to be stimulated, and speech and verbal comprehension, swallowing assessments; Evaluates findings from speech, hearing and swallowing assessments and provides recommendations for services and treatment based on evaluation findings; Interprets findings to other team members, the client and client’s family as needed; Confers with team members, the client and client’s family as indicated to develop a treatment plan; Provides recommended speech therapy services; Develops remedial programs; Communicates results of swallowing assessments and works with dietary regarding food consistency or revisions; Coordinates the delivery of follow-up services; Instructs clients on the proper use and maintenance of hearing aids; Prepares evaluations, progress reports, updates and annual evaluations; Attends meetings regarding services; Maintains records for each client serviced.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State recognized college or university with a master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Sciences & Disorders AND:

  • NYS Licensed in Speech-Language Pathology OR:
  • Eligibility for NYS license within one year of employment given appropriate supervision.
Full Performance Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics

Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of speech and hearing disorders; Good knowledge of, and experience, with dysphagia; Good knowledge of speech therapy equipment and skill in its use; Good knowledge of socio-economic factors affecting speech disabilities; Good knowledge of community resources available to support or supplement a speech therapy program; Ability to administer tests and record results of speech and hearing disorders; Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; Patience; Tact; Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

Salary: $32.1769-$35.7720 per hour
