Description
The SLP will work within a multidisciplinary team to assess, develop, and implement appropriate inter-disciplinary Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students. The student population primarily includes non-verbal and non-ambulatory individuals with brain injuries or brain-based disorders. The role involves participating in research efforts related to students and organizational research initiatives. Successful candidates demonstrate strategic focus, leadership, innovation, effective communication, and accountability.

Responsibilities
- Evaluate students' functional status using standardized assessment tools on evaluation, quarterly, and as needed.
- Establish treatment goals based on parent input and clinical decisions.
- Plan, implement, and modify POC based on assessments and treatment outcomes.
- Prepare and update IEPs promptly.
- Coordinate treatment strategies with the interdisciplinary team.
- Educate patients, families, and caregivers to improve care and outcomes.
- Participate in team meetings and conferences.
- Document treatment sessions, reports, and student-care forms accurately and timely.
- Engage in research activities as appropriate.
- Collaborate with the educational and therapy team, including special education teachers and therapists.
- Work with parents to involve them in their child's progress.
- Design lessons/treatment plans using a multi-sensory approach, incorporating art, music, and technology.
- Attend and participate in mandatory training sessions.
- Assist in developing educational modules for staff training and accreditation.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and confidential environment following regulations.
- Perform other responsibilities related to service delivery, research, and education as organizational needs dictate.
- Prepare session notes daily.
- Report seizure-like events promptly, including media if applicable.
- Participate in Grand Rounds, including preparing slides, attending training, and presenting quarterly.
- Attend iBRAIN Innovation meetings thrice a year.
- Support RAs/Paras in understanding IEPs and formulating research questions.
- Complete annual research integrity training.
- Identify knowledge gaps annually for continuing education.
Qualifications
- Valid NYS SLP license or eligibility.
- Two years of pediatric clinical experience with children having brain-based disorders preferred.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Initiative, flexibility, and ability to lift at least 50 pounds.
- Detail-oriented, motivated, team-oriented.
- Research experience is a plus.
- A sense of humor is essential.
