Under the general direction of and upon physician referral; to assess the receptive/expressive communication and swallowing needs of impaired patients, develop treatment goals, plan and implement appropriate treatment plans utilizing a variety of speech/language therapy treatment procedures.

The Speech Therapist must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served in his/her department. The individual must acquire and/or demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. In addition, have an understanding of the state laws and regulations regarding school-based therapy, documentation, and billing. Therapist is responsible for development of students’ IEP goals, progress reports, and contribution to annual review meetings with staff and parents/caregivers. He/she must be able to provide care with consideration of developmental status.

Primary Duties
  • Based upon the treatment diagnosis of the patient, objectively and quantitatively assess a baseline level of communication and swallowing function for each patient referred. This baseline includes pertinent medical and onset history, articulation, voice, fluency, language, swallowing and cognition, providing sufficient information to formulate treatment outcome goals.
  • Based upon the initial assessment, identify communication/swallowing needs and establish appropriate treatment outcome goals expressed in measurable terms, realistic and suitable to the patient’s condition.
  • Plan and implement dynamic treatment programs designed to achieve or significantly progress toward the established outcome goals, ensuring consistency and continuity that enhance the patient’s clinical response.
  • Document progress and discharge accurately and timely, using professional terminology. Write treatment notes for each session, progress reports at appropriate intervals, and discharge summaries that clearly reflect achievement of outcome goals.

Qualifications
  • Graduate from an ASHA accredited Speech/Language Pathology curriculum
  • Master’s Degree required
  • Current Idaho Speech Language Pathologist license
  • Certificate of Clinical Competency (CCC)
  • BLS on first day or be assigned by the Learning Center
