Qualifications

  • Requires a Bachelor’s and/or Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
  • Must hold a current state license to practice.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of therapy evaluation principles and materials.
  • Familiar with state and federal accreditation standards.

Responsibilities

  • Screen, evaluate, and treat patients/residents needing SLP services.
  • Review medical information and conduct screenings to determine need for services.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans per patient needs.
  • Educate staff and supervise therapy personnel.
  • Maintain confidentiality and accurate billing information daily.
  • Attend interdisciplinary meetings and family meetings as appropriate.
  • Adhere to documentation requirements of the Rehab department and facility.
  • Provide staff training and in-services as needed.
  • Follow facility policies and Rehab Policy and Procedure Manual.

Job description

The Speech and Language Pathologist must: have a Bachelors and/or Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology, have a current state license, have excellent oral and written communication skills, demonstrate competency in therapy treatment and evaluation principles, techniques, materials, and equipment utilization, and demonstrate knowledge of state and federal accreditation standards.

The Speech and Language Pathologist:
  • Assumes responsibility for the screening, evaluation, and treatment of facility patients/residents needing Speech Language Pathology services
  • Reviews medical information and conducts screenings prior to evaluations to determine patient need for services and ability to benefit from skilled services
  • Performs patient’s evaluations under physician order and develops a treatment plan in accordance with patient’s needs
  • Implements treatment plan through direct treatment, education of treatment staff, and supervision of speech therapy staff
  • Assumes responsibility for continued professional growth and development by participating in continuing education programs and other appropriate learning experiences
  • Maintains confidentiality of all patient, facility, and physician-related information
  • Maintains accurate billing information, in accordance with procedures, on a daily basis
  • Attends and participates in interdisciplinary meetings, as appropriate, to relay clinical findings and recommendations to other members of the rehab team
  • Attends and participates in family meetings, as appropriate
  • Adheres to documentation requirements of the Rehabilitation department and the facility
  • Conducts staff training/education, as appropriate, via formal and informal in-services and consultations
  • Reviews and follows the policies and procedures outlined by the facility and Rehab Policy and Procedure Manual
  • Supervises non-professional staff, as appropriate
