Responsibilities

The Speech Language Pathologist, Early Intervention provides and directs speech therapy services to children aged birth to three, including assessment, treatment, program planning and implementation, related documentation, and communication.

RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Provides speech therapy services to children as outlined in their treatment plan and initiates referrals when appropriate and in accordance with Bureau of Early Intervention procedures.
2. Conducts evaluations annually and performs six-month reviews of IFSPs to determine the need for intervention and treatment and produce IFSP goals.
3. Produces discharge reports in advance of reaching age-out of Early Intervention to assist with the transition process, or as required at discharge from caseload.
4. Interprets and communicates evaluation findings to parents and other treatment team members.
5. Establishes treatment schedule and provides frequency of services as determined by IFSP.
6. Communicates and documents changes to the IFSP as needed.
7. Participates in co-treatment or IFSP consultation with other treatment team members to ensure coordination of patient care.
8. Develops appropriate home or community programming to maintain and enhance the development of the child across therapeutic environments.
9. Documents results of the child’s assessment, treatment, follow-up and termination of services.
10. Adapts treatment plans to meet the individual needs of the child.
11. Provides recommendations and obtains appropriate equipment to improve patient’s communication or feeding skills and instructs family in the use of augmentative communication devices when necessary.
12. Provides parent and caregiver education for appropriate speech-language procedures or home programming to allow carry-over of therapeutic remediation and goals in daily activities.
13. Supervises students and provides mentorship, as needed.
14. Reviews the quality and appropriateness of the total services delivered and of individual speech therapy programs for effectiveness and efficiency, using predetermined criteria.
15. Communicates with management regarding caseload status and capacity for new referrals.
16. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

They must possess a master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology, Communication Disorders, Communicative Disorders or similarly titled area that is consistent and acceptable to the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

They must possess or be eligible for a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) or be eligible to participate as an ASHA Clinical Fellow.

The Speech Language Pathologist must be licensed, certified or credentialed, as required in the state of practice.
