Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) Clinical Specialist

Position Overview

The Speech Pathologist IV, Clinical Specialist is a senior therapist fully competent in duties of SLP I, II, and III, with a broad clinical skill set across various patient types, ages, and diagnoses. They utilize advanced skills and techniques to address language, articulation, fluency, voice, and swallow deficits, including the use of augmentative and alternative communication systems when indicated. They conduct clinical and instrumental swallow assessments for diverse patient populations, applying evidence-based clinical reasoning. The SLP IV functions independently as a content expert and may develop new pathways, processes, and interventions, providing education to staff through various communication methods.

Responsibilities
  • Adhere to all Joint Commission requirements and organizational standards, including patient care, safety, teamwork, ongoing education, and compliance.
  • Perform all essential functions of SLP I, II, and III, with a focus on a more diverse and complex patient population.
  • Lead patient care conferences, team meetings, and contribute to policy development.
  • Develop clinical content for teaching and professional development activities.
  • Participate in research and new program development.
  • Support departmental and organizational goals, serve as a clinical instructor, and participate in quality initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Master's or Doctorate degree in Speech Language Pathology from an approved program (required).
  • At least four years of clinical practice as an SLP (required).
  • At least one advanced certification (required).
  • Experience leading departmental initiatives or programs (required).
  • Completion of Stanford Leadership Development course within 12 months of hire (required).
  • Maintain at least 50% of annual CEU hours in specialty area (required).
  • Membership in the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (required).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong understanding of ethical standards, evaluation and treatment methodologies, and legal considerations.
  • Excellent communication, clinical reasoning, and supervisory skills.
  • Ability to develop and adapt treatment plans, evaluate complex cases, and lead educational activities.
Licenses and Certifications
  • SLP - Speech Language Pathologist
  • BLS - Basic Life Support
Physical Demands and Work Conditions

Frequent walking, lifting, bending, and working with potentially contagious or risky environments. Use of protective gear may be required.

Additional Information
