Job Description

This job plans, organizes, and conducts speech therapy treatment programs based on guidelines established under the state practice act. Responsibilities include maintaining patient care records, evaluating patient responses to treatment, recommending treatment plan changes, and participating in in-service and continuing education programs. The role may also involve participating in departmental programs, clinical education, and assisting with program development/enhancement.

Work Experience

Required - None

Certifications
  • Current Louisiana Speech Pathologist license or eligibility for licensure by examination or reciprocity from another state
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association
  • Certification of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Proficiency with computer skills, including data entry and retrieval of patient information
  • Proficiency with Windows applications and various software packages related to the role
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and professionally to individuals at various levels throughout the patient care process
Job Duties
  • Perform age- and diagnosis-appropriate evaluations and treatments
  • Maintain patient records according to standards, policies, and procedures
  • Recommend alternative plans to meet departmental needs and be flexible with scheduling
  • Achieve productivity levels set by administration, and participate in professional development, training, and credentialing
  • Educate and train others within the discipline as required
  • Adapt communication to suit the patient population, respecting privacy, explaining procedures, requesting permissions, and adjusting communication styles accordingly
