The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) organizes and provides speech-language services to facilitate rehabilitation, directing patient participation to restore, reinforce, and enhance communication and swallowing functions. They promote health within the scope of practice and adhere to the profession's Code of Ethics.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Deliver effective rehab services, adhere to care plans, and document services timely.
- Participate in patient care and staff meetings.
- Make referrals to other disciplines and agencies as needed.
- Collaborate with the rehabilitation team to select appropriate therapies.
- Adjust treatment plans based on individual patient needs.
- Ensure a safe environment and report hazards.
- Order and maintain supplies and equipment.
- Provide high-quality, compassionate resident and family services.
- Screen, examine, evaluate, and diagnose patients to develop and implement treatment plans.
- Develop treatment goals in collaboration with patients and caregivers, including therapies for cognitive communication, speech, swallowing, and more.
- Perform specialized assessments like FEES if trained and certified.
- Coordinate adaptive communication devices and instruct patients in their use.
- Identify hearing deficits and refer for assessment and rehabilitation.
- Select suitable activities based on patient's capacity and interests.
- Instruct and evaluate patients during therapeutic activities, modifying plans as needed.
- Perform reexaminations and modify treatment plans accordingly.
- In emergency situations, adapt duties to serve as frontline staff.

Required Education and Experience
- Current Illinois SLP license in good standing
- Valid CPR certification
- Excellent customer service skills
